Consider if timestamp should be removed
stboot used to have a timestamp as part of its host configuration. It was deleted here:
It's unclear to me if this was meant as a temporary or a permanent removal. Around the same time that the timestamp was pulled, other things that I know was meant to be added back in a cleaned-up form was pulled as well.
Anyway, this timestamp was meant to be set to the current time by the operator during provisioning IIRC. This is why stprov local is sending a timestamp to stprov remote as part of their ping-pong.
Open questions:
- Is the timestamp meant to come back in stboot's host configuration?
- Should we delete the timestamp from stprov, or just keep it around for now? If the latter, we should probably update the documentation of it which is obsolete.
That this timestamp is just floating around in stprov was reported by @quite in #36 (closed). Moving the discussion of that here, including a little bit more context that I was able to dig up on it.
